Where to Stay In Paris
First, talk about where to stay and rest your head after long days of exploring. Paris is divided into 20 arrondissements (a fancy French word for neighborhoods), spiraling out from the center like a snail shell. Cool, right?
If you are planning a trip to Paris, we recommend staying in the 4th, 5th, and 6th arrondissements for your first 3 days in the Paris itinerary. These are smack in the middle of all the action, including the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the rest of the city!
Pro tip: Pick a hotel near a Metro station. Trust me, your feet will thank you later! We stayed at the Novotel Paris Centre Gare Montparnasse, and it was perfect – great location and didn’t break the bank.
Before you book, always check Travelpayouts. It’s my go-to for honest reviews; you can even book directly through them now. Easy peasy!

Getting Around: Paris on the Move
Okay, let’s talk transport. Paris has this unique public system called RATP, and it’s a lifesaver! Don’t let the French names scare you off; they’re super easy to use, even if your French vocabulary starts and ends with “bonjour.”
Here’s the secret weapon: Download Google Maps before your trip. It has all the public transport schedules built in. Just type where you want to go, and voilà ! It’ll show you the easiest way to get there.
If you’re feeling fancy, you can get the Paris Visite pass. It covers all public transport within the city. We skipped it for our short trip, but it might be worth it if you’re staying longer.
Whatever you do, avoid relying on taxis. Unless you want to empty your wallet faster than you can say “Eiffel Tower,” stick to public transport. It’s cheaper and often quicker!
What to Pack: Paris Edition
What to pack, but let’s stick to the essentials:
Cross-Body Bag: Before you start your Parisian adventure, listen up: pickpockets are rampant! They hang out in touristy areas like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, and You need a small bag that’s attached to you and in your line of sight at all times. A crossbody bag like this one is your best defense against the locals.
Foot-Friendly Footwear: If you’ve been to European cities before, you know the walking is marathon-like. Paris is no exception! Invest in comfy sandals or trainers that won’t leave your feet blistered and betrayed. Go for sneakers like these – they’re your best friends! Just make sure to break them in before you start your trip.
Power bank: Trust us, your battery will drain faster between Google Maps and all those photos.
Europe plug converter: Because your phone dying in front of the Eiffel Tower is NOT an option.
Day 1: The Eiffel Tower, Louvre, and More!
It’s Paris time! Start your first day of this 3 day Paris itinerary and adventure. We’ll tick off all the classic must-sees from your bucket list!
1. The Eiffel Tower
On the first day, you must start to visit the French capital. The Eiffel Tower is the quintessential sight for your first day in the French capital – a true city icon. You’ve probably seen it plastered across every travel guide, postcard, and tourist brochure. But it’s an absolute experience in person.
You can reach the top two ways: lift or stairs. Taking the stairs will save you about half the cash, but it’ll cost you in sweat equity!
Pro tip: Hit the Eiffel Tower as early in the morning as you can manage. You’ll dodge the tourist crowds, which means less time twiddling your thumbs in queues and more space to snag that perfect photo op at the summit.
The Tower opens at 9:00 a.m. in summer and 9:30 a.m. in winter. We suggest joining a guided tour to learn some Eiffel Tower trivia while up there. Sometimes, they start as early as possible, around 8:45 a.m., which is perfect because you’ll be among the first to reach the top of the Eiffel Tower.
2. The Mona Lisa in the Louvre
You can’t possibly visit Paris without visiting one of the world’s most famous art museums.
It’s the city’s most famous museum. That iconic glass pyramid makes it a beauty both inside and out.
We highly recommend a stroll along the River Seine for a scenic route from the Eiffel Tower to the Louvre. You’ll be treated to some gorgeous river views and prime photo ops of the Eiffel Tower.
The Louvre houses an incredible array of global artwork, from ancient world pieces to Islamic masterpieces and Western European art dating back to 1848.
With its Medieval ruins, global artifacts, and even a Napoleon III Apartment, the Louvre isn’t just an art gallery it’s the largest museum on the planet.
Of course, the Louvre’s crown jewel is the world-famous Mona Lisa. This painting has been replicated countless times and is recognized worldwide.
3. Wander Down the Champs Elysees
Paris’s most famous street, a jaunt down France’s grand boulevard, is an absolute must. It’s shopping central, lined with high-end designer stores like Sephora, Louis Vuitton, and Adidas. You’ll also find familiar high-street brands.
If lunchtime rolls around, it’s a great spot to sample some traditional French snacks. Check out Brioche Dorée, which is on the right side of the street. They serve delicious baguette sandwiches, patisserie cakes, and other mouthwatering treats.
4. Conquer the Arc de Triomphe
Paris is a stunning European city with countless picture-perfect spots. One of the best has got to be the view from atop the Arc de Triomphe.
Situated on Place de l’Etoile at the Champs-Elysées’ western end, the Arc was built in an astylar architectural style. It memorializes those who fell in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.
Each face of the arch is adorned with intricate carvings, sculptures, and engraved names.
You can climb the winding staircase to the Arc de Triomphe’s summit. Inside, there’s a minor museum housing war artifacts. Keep climbing, and you’ll reach the observation deck at the top.
For more information, guided tours are available for €20.
From here, you’ll be treated to the city’s most spectacular panoramas and unforgettable views of the Eiffel Tower, Sacré Coeur, and the Louvre, not to mention the tree-lined Champs-Elysées stretching out below.
Day 2: The Notre-Dame, Sainte Chapelle, and Seine River
On your second-day, 3-day Paris itinerary, we’ll soak in the beauty of the Seine River and explore timeless historical gems.
5. Visit Notre-Dame Cathedral
Free entry to the cathedral tower, France’s most iconic cathedral, Notre Dame, is a must-see in Paris. Situated on ÃŽle de la Cité, this architectural masterpiece was built between 1163 and 1345. Admiring its intricate decorations is absolutely worth your time.
6. Discover Île de la Cité and Sainte-Chapelle
The charming island area of ÃŽle de la Cité houses other remarkable sights. After Notre Dame, make sure to visit nearby Sainte-Chapelle. Its interior outshines Notre Dame, boasting one of the world’s most stunning stained glass windows.
While on ÃŽle de la Cité, check out La Conciergerie – the oldest part of the Palais de la Cité. Also, stroll through pretty flower markets, browse boutique shops on the island, or spot the city’s oldest clock.
7. Wander Ile Saint Louis
Free This small, central island is a short walk from Sainte-Chapelle and ÃŽle de la Cité. The quaint neighborhood hosts some of the city’s most charming cafes, including the Instagram-famous Au Vieux Paris d’Arcole – perfect for a coffee break.
8. Embark on a Seine River Cruise
River cruises are always a great idea. Enjoy some fantastic river tours, and it’s an excellent way to see any city. Plus, you’ll get some incredible photo ops of the city’s top landmarks. You can book a Seine cruise in advance. Whether you fancy sightseeing with a glass of champagne or prefer a hop-on-hop-off service for glimpses of the waterways, there’s an option for you.
9. Appreciate the Panthéon.
Standing tall in the Latin Quarter atop Montagne Sainte-Geneviève, the Panthéon is a stunning monument. It’s the final resting place of famous Parisian figures like Marie Curie and Voltaire, offering a perfect blend of culture, history, and beautiful architecture.
If you’re only in Paris for 3 days, visiting the Panthéon is a must. You’ll skip the queues and ascend to the top of this beautiful building. From there, you’ll be treated to more breathtaking panoramic views across the city.
Day 3: Sacré-Cœur and Montmartre
On your last day in the 3-day Paris itinerary, we’ll visit more of Paris’s cultural treasures and even peek beneath the city’s surface.
10. Ascend the Sacré-Cœur
A must-add to your itinerary is a visit to the Sacré-Coeur. If you make it to the top, you’ll be rewarded with yet another breathtaking panorama of the city. The Sacré-Coeur sits at Paris’s highest point – a lofty 130 meters above sea level.
Nestled in the Montmartre neighborhood, the Sacré-Coeur is a relatively new addition to Paris’s skyline, only completed in the 1900s. Despite welcoming over 11.5 million visitors annually, its pearl-colored exterior stone has remained immaculately white.
Entry to the church is free, but if you’re up for conquering the 300 steps to the dome’s summit (no elevator, I’m afraid), there’s a fee. Trust me, the stunning views make it worth every step.
11. Wander through Montmartre
Next on our Paris adventure is a stroll around Montmartre, the vibrant neighborhood home to the magnificent Sacré-Coeur. You could easily spend an entire afternoon away soaking up the 18th arrondissement’s unique atmosphere and uncovering hidden gems.
This area has long been a creative haven, attracting actors, writers, and artists for decades. Even today, you can spot artists at work on the streets, creating everything from caricatures to impressive oil landscapes.
12. Unwind in Luxembourg Gardens
The Luxembourg Gardens truly shine in spring and summer. Bursting with wildflowers and buzzing with bees, they’re a perfect spot to escape the city’s hustle and bustle.
With its distinctly Parisian charm, these gardens are just one of many beautiful parks in the city. But if you’re short on time, Luxembourg Gardens should top your list.
Don’t miss hidden gems like the Medici Fountain and the garden’s beehives. Bring a picnic lunch or grab a baguette and some fruit from a nearby café to enjoy amidst the blooms.
13. Discover the Musée d’Orsay
While not quite as famous as the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay is equally impressive. It’s another of Paris’s most visited museums.
Located a 20-minute metro ride from the Catacombs, the Musée d’Orsay houses the world’s largest collection of impressionist art. You’ll find works by renowned artists like Van Gogh, and the building itself is a showstopper too.
Final Thoughts
Well, mes amis, that wraps up my 3 days in Paris itinerary! I hope this guide excites you and prepares you for your Parisian adventure. In my humble (but correct) opinion, three days in Paris is the perfect time to see the crème de la crème of the city.
But hey, life happens, and sometimes we don’t have as much time as we’d like. If you only have 2 days to spare, we’d suggest skipping the Versailles trip (I know, it hurts me to say that!) and focusing on the main parts of the city. You’ll still get to soak in plenty of Parisian magic at a slightly more caffeinated pace!
Now, if you’re considering conquering Paris in just one day, let us stop you. One day in Paris is like eating only the frosting on a croissant; it’s simply not enough! If that’s all you’ve planned, do yourself a favor and extend that trip pronto! Paris deserves more of your time, and you deserve more of Paris.
Remember, Paris isn’t just a checklist of famous monuments (though they are pretty awesome). It’s about savoring that first bite of a warm pain au chocolat, getting lost in charming little streets, and feeling that indescribable Parisian vibe. So whether you’re here for 3 days in Paris or 3 weeks, take time to soak it all in.
we hope this guide helps you fall in love with Paris. And who knows? Maybe you’ll be planning your second (or third or fourth) trip before leaving! After all, as Audrey Hepburn said, “Paris is always a good idea.”
